<p>What is a competitive pay rate for a software engineering internship? How much did you make if you had one?</p>
<p>I apologize if this thread seems rude, but I'm trying to figure out if my offer is good or if I should consider continuing my search. You don't have to say anything if you don't want to, obviously.</p>
<p>Note: For a computer science undergraduate between his/her junior and senior years, if possible. Graduate student internships I'd imagine would have higher pay rate so that's not relevant for me.</p>
<p>I made 0x11 / hour though I was a freshman though I think you should be able to get more, especially being a junior and in the bay area. Top tier silicon valley companies pay their interns a lot.</p>
<p>Look at glass door. It’s a great resource. They have interview questions there too. Most companies recycle these questions (most of them are quite dumb including the one I had from M$).</p>
<p>In most cases, the pay rate for internship should not be your primary consideration. The experience you’ll get, the potential to work later at the company if it interests you, the connections you might make, how it will look on your resume… these are more important in internship decisions.</p>
<p>My S had a sort-of software internship with a non-software company; wasn’t his real field, he’s a hardware engineer now (EE/ECE) in his “real” job… but the internship was probably really valuable on his resume. He had it for 2 summers.</p>
<p>He could have made more painting houses those summers; his friends’ pay rate at those jobs was higher. This was 2-3 years ago… but he made $11-13/hour. Not great pay, but great internship experience.</p>
<p>I’m not complaining that the pay they’re offering me is low…it’s not (I don’t think). It may even be very high. I just wanted to get perspective, since I can’t seem to find much online.</p>
<p>Nonetheless, I more than likely will be taking the internship because it seems like fantastic experience.</p>
