Software Engineering TAG, chances?

Cummalative GPA - 3.96

Relevant courses below
Calc 1 – A-
Calc 2 – A-
Calc 3/4 – Not taken
Intro/Intermediate C++ – A+
Intro/Intermediate/Advanced Java – A+
Data Structures and Algorithms – A+

The only problem is that I didn’t take the equivalence of ICS 31 ~ 33 at all.

However, Irvine says that
“One year of computer programming courses in a single object–language (Python, Java, or C++). Object-oriented programming language courses that do not directly articulate to I&C SCI 31-33 can be used to satisfy the admissions requirements. Introduction to computer science courses do not meet this requirement.”.

I’m not sure if I have enough to meet the admission requirements.

I am capable of writing Python code, I work with python a lot.

since you mention TAG, you must be at a CCC. You have a TAG counselor available, and UC counselors regularly visit each CCC. So work with them. You can also contact UCI directly https://www.admissions.uci.edu/contact/index.php

On another note, is it okay to drop a class with a W if it is not one of the required/prereq courses?

Class in question is mechanical physics

^^^ yes

I have 2 W’s so far, once in pre calc and once in data structures. However, I retook the class and got an A+ on the second attempt in both courses. Should I drop the class now with no W or see how I do and risk a W?

You can continue and take a W. It’s up to you.

Thanks for your reply!
I couldn’t find any information on UCI’s website, but dropping the course would put me at 10 quarter units and I need 12 to maintain full time status. Is this something to worry about for TAG for Irvine?

I looked on the tag matrix, UCI’s website, and the UC general transfer webpage. Couldn’t find anything…

If only there was some way to contact UCI and ask

It was the weekend :frowning:
Anyways, I contacted them today and in case if anyone else has a similar question, admissions said that full-time status is not a requirement for their TAG.
