I am thinking of majoring in information technology for my B.S and doing software engineering for Masters. Does this seem like a good plan? the school I want to go do doesnt offer SE as a major for bachelors but does as a Masters
If you want to work in software development / software engineering, it is better to choose a more technical bachelor’s degree program. If the school does not offer a specific software engineering major, computer science is the most applicable major. Indeed, computer science is often considered slightly better, since software engineering as a college major is typically similar but with extra courses in software engineering methodology that may not add as much value as additional computer science topics courses (though having at least one overview course in software engineering is useful for computer science majors). Information technology is typically a less technical business-based major that is more aimed at managing computers rather than designing and developing software for them.
