Solid ACT score for URM

What would be a good ACT score for a hispanic URM???

As good as any score for any other applicant.

AA - while good - shouldn't be an excuse to underachieve :]

You shouldn't build around and bank on the URM status. Consider it a little tug in the right direction on top of everything else.

Let me guess...ur Asian and ur bitter... jealousy never got anyone anywhere

From what I see from past result boards, ethnicity (URM) plays a massive difference in terms of academic performance. What do you have to say about that???

You should shut up, what do you want someone to say? Brown just accepts every URM with an ACT score over 25 cause its not a very good school? Stop fishing for security or whatever you're looking for.

theterminatior, did you mark urself as asain or black or both?

both, if i had just said black i would've been accepted to Stanford. But whateva, i got into Duke.

Right. I'm bitter. Very very bitter. I think that AA is a necessity right now. I've learned that from being around on these boards. Get over yourself.

It DOES play a difference you ... dolt. How did you get the impression I said it doesn't? I simply said that you shouldn't be like "OH! I don't have to try as hard." The idea behind AA is that many URMs come from underpriviliged backgrounds and cannot afford to pay for fancy summer programs, tutors, private schools that send 5 kids to each ivy every year like some WASPs.

Yeah I just generalized. Bite me. In theory it really does work, it allows them to have the chance to get to college and fulfill their potential.

Colleges aren't saying "oh they're not as smart but since they're a URM we'll take em." They're saying "there are historical financial and economic reasons that this person did not have access to the same resources as another applicant, and thus might not have performed as highly. However, because we realize that statistics are just a tiny part of admissions, and because we want a student body with a wide range of intellectual and creative diversity, a student body of people who are grateful for their education and will use the opportunity given, we will give this person a chance. We see potential in them just as we do in all the other accepted students, this person just couldn't do as much or as well in HS due to aforementioned circumstances"

I must reiterate. Do the best you absolutely can. Just like everybody else. Go all out. Exhaust yourself in HS so you exerperience all you can, accumulate accolades and build that resume of yours. Do what every other accepted applicant does. If you do that, the URM status will make it a good bet you're in.

Do the bare minimum and hope for a roll of the dice with AA and you're going to have just as hard a time getting in as a non-URM applicant that didn't have anything spectacular on their application.

^^ thats why i like fengsuibundi. plus, i want to go shopping with her.

Hey hon. I'm a guy :)

But I'm up for shopping!

oh sorry.

lets go shopping!

Surething! Where are ya from? this should prolly shift over to PM/AIM hahaa

natalie_portman might be annoyed ;)

"Let me guess...ur Asian and ur bitter... jealousy never got anyone anywhere"

Hopefully your brilliant attitude came across in your application. Let me guess...you are of substandard intelligence.

Well I mean the first half was sorta correct what with the me being southasian and all.

But no need to insult the person. Just their opinions :]
