SOLUTION: Cal Grants for UCSB

okay my problem was that in my award letter, they listed cal grants as a possibility in section C. if you're awarded cal grants, it should be under section A. so i called finaid at ucsb and they said that i was listed for cal grant b but not A. they said that i was qualified for a. so i asked if i could switch it to A and they said yes. so they changed it but no changes in my acc. so i called ucsb again and they said my cal grant A was on hold and they had to verify my graduation or something. so i called webgrants and they were like you already did that and if u wanna change from B to A, you need to fill out a G-10 form.

i just sent the letter today and im hoping this will work.

if anyone is in the same boat as me, you should follow these procedures. this process freaking upped my stress level. ergggf

Why did you switch to grant B? A lot of people don’t switch to B because then the school gives you more finaid to make up the difference.

DITTO

Why did you switch to A? Calgrant B gives you more money over the 4 years, that’s why it was chosen automatically for you.

What dissonance wrote is what I was trying to explain to you in the last post. When they evaluate what your university grant/financial aid is, they take into account all the money you are getting from cal grant, scholarships, other grants, etc. So, your financial aid/university grant should have made up for the low amount of the Cal Grant B you were awarded. If you switch to Cal Grant A, the University grant/financial aid might be re-evaluated and reduced because they give you a smaller award to make up for the larger Cal Grant A award you have requested. So, in the end… it might be the same or similar except I think with Cal Grant B you can use for transportation, books, etc… things other than tuition. And, like keltix mentioned you may receive more out of Cal Grant B in the long run.
