Solutions to a low GPA?

You all have been a lot of help with my questions, so I was just wondering if you could help with this question about my GPA. I currently have a 3.0 at school, and I know it's low for an Economics major, and its getting me rather upset. I had a bad first semester (around 2.2?) and have gotten 2 3.5's since then. I know I'm not a bad student I just slacked that first semester, had a lot on my mind, father had just passed away. So now I'm wondering what would any of you do in this situation of the low GPA? I obviously want an amazing job out of school and its making me nervous that I may have a lot of difficulty finding anything with this GPA. I still have 2 more semesters left to get my GPA up a little more, but even if I get 3.5's consistently it leaves me at around a 3.2.

Anyway I'm really just looking for what your solutions would be? I was even thinking of going to get a Master's in Accounting just because I thought since my GPA is that low I'd never be able to get into the Finance world. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone.

Well, remember that graduate schools look at your GPA, too. So it's not like a MAcc is a guarantee. You can aim for higher than a 3.5 each semester (yes, more easily said than done) for a overall GPA > 3.2, or you can look for careers within finance that are not as selective as the banks. The "finance world" isn't just made of Wall Street firms that ask for a 3.7+. There are many other types of firms (and corporations with a finance department) that you have a shot at. And the Big 4 accounting firms, while selective, hire a good number each year.

also work experience can make up for a couple-several tenths in GPA

but what other jobs would one get in the finance world that would make a lot of money?

The MAcc program I was looking at wasn't stellar or anything, so I'm sure I could get in and I have a connection into the Big 4 firm so school isn't THAT important.

But kmzizzle, thats something I would like to find out... what other jobs are there that I actually might have a chance at getting?

yea, i got a 3.15 this last semester :( not a good way to start out. i just slacked totally
Im sure I could get into a big 4, but i dont think i want to do accounting, and the pay isnt good unless you are top crop

Well I guess we both just gotta keep working our butts off and hoping for the best!
