some admissions information

D and I did the official IU tour today. A couple of things that have been mentioned on this forum were confirmed, and also I heard a new "number" for IU. One of the admissions people confirmed that it's a little tougher to get in this time of year for in state students, and much tougher for OOS students. She also mentioned something about an SAT score of 1200. I had never heard a figure that high before. She said a GPA of 3.6 or higher is important. The important thing I took away was to apply early. They'll continue to take applications, but it will be tougher to get in.

Another interesting factoid I took away--only about 10% of students receive direct admit offers to their schools. For those of you wanting to get into Kelley School, don't sweat it so much if you're not a direct admit.

Every single person we met with stressed how important it was to get your housing deposit and application in early for a better chance at your first choice housing option.

Wow. This is horrible news. I applied as a transfer student in early November and still have no answer from IU. Looks like being accepted is more unlikely every day.

Don't worry, ppl out there........the 1200 sat, 26 act, and 3.6 GPA is all admitted students. (not jst ppl who enroll) (i asked my counselor). Also the 3.6 GPA is WEIGHTED. which is dumb, ik but it makes the university look good.

I believe tht it is harder to get into IU now cuz they had 30,000 apps this yr.

Also, the kelley direct admit isn't accurate. It's over 50% of the kids r direct admits. Not 10%. 10% is (the number of kids who enrolled at IU) divide by (the number of kids who applied (accepted/denied) and put business as their major)

IU statistics can be very misleading. Be careful

u got any q's, post them. I'm a IU prospective biz major student. I mite go 2 Iu next yr

Zouman, thanks for the offer. H and I have both received two degrees from IU and live in Bloomington so know a few things about IU ;) It's a little different though when it's our oldest child going through the process. If you end up in B-ton, I'm sure I'll be asking you for some straight forward opinions on different dorms.

The 10% number is ALL of the schools, ie music, journalism, COAS, not just business.

Normalguy--I've been reading about your IU saga for several months now, missing transcripts, etc. I don't recall your stats, but I do recall they seemed more than adequate. I wouldn't worry too much. Also remember that all schools naturally lose some students for academic and financial reasons. As a transfer you can replace one of those upper level lost students. You're not competing against potential freshman, but potential juniors or sophomores or ???

Yea it's definitely been an exhausting & stressful process. I have about 62 credit hours with a 3.609. Not amazing, but it at least ives me a shot.

rrah, yea, i don't know everythin about IU. I will be visiting near the end of feb. (i was jst there durin winter break). I felt the small town was dead w/o college kids. anyways, how's the weather down in bloomington? I hear it rains a ton down there but not much snow. I am currently livin in WI and jst want 2 get outa here. We have had over 13 inches of snow in Milwaukee.
