Ok so I need some advice and help, I've looked over my high school record, and, if I'm honest, I'm not the brightest student but I do have high hopes for college. So here are my stats currently.

GPA (school doesn't rank on 4.0 scale), 88/100, roughly a 3.2 or 3.3
EC's, School varsity swimming team for 3 years (Sof,Junior, and Senior)
300+hours of volunteer work
120 Hours at a Nursing Home
180 (roughly) at Hospital
member of four after school clubs
Latin Honor Society officer ( I know it doesn't mean much, but it won't hurt putting it on my app)
French Club
Investment Club
Red Watch Band (founding member), an organization that raises awareness on the dangers of excessive drinking)

SAT's- 2030
10- Essay
740-Math
690- Reading
600- Grammar
SAT2's- US-720
Schools that I want to go to, Ohio State (Columbus), University of Minnesota (TC), Penn State, Texas A&M, University of Illinois-UC, and Purdue Really want to go to Minnesota, prospective major, Computer Science and Bio-Engineering (not biomedical)

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to elaborate. Thanks

I don’t think that you should be so harsh on yourself. You have a decent GPA and a good SAT that is above what most (not the CC folks) would consider smart.

Additionally, your ECs are solid for the schools that you’re applying too. The only thing that might raise a red flag is your GPA, but I think you can overcome that. I don’t really know enough about your schools to give you an accurate chance, though sorry:(

What is your class rank or approximate decile? What is your state of residency? I would try to show an upward trend your senior year. That’s probably the most important thing you can do at this point. Good luck!

Unfortunately, my school does not rank its students. And my graduating class is around 600 students. So I’d say top 30 or 40%, but I could be completely wrong. I live in NY, but I’d like to go to college in the midwest preferably Big 10 because I really like those schools.

Anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions. I’m also thinking of applying to SUNY Buffalo, but I really want to go to Purdue or Minnesota. Please, don’t want to be impolite but, this is TIME SENSITIVE, so I could really use your input.

You have good chances at all of them except Penn State and Purdue. If your rank were higher it would help, but you can’t change that now so at least try to get your SAT up to have a better shot at them both.

Are there any cost constraints? What is your Regents average (which only UB will likely care about)? You should defintely apply to one or more SUNY schools amd UB would be the closest match to the others on your list in terms of size and spirit.

You are very “bright” as evidenced by your SAT scores but have underachieved in the classroom. Your SAT scores are more than enough to get you into all of these schools but your GPA may keep you out. Would Community College for a year be an option if you don’t get in?
