<p>NCG: It fits with my theory of why these programs exist. My theory is that it’s bait to lure talented undergrads to the undergraduate program. Once you’ve got them hooked, there’s no point to giving them the actual seat. So these “guarantees” are not only unnecessary but far from guaranteed. (Preempt: effort changes because they’re advertised as guarantees.)</p>
<p>I’ve recently been told that one such program had kicked out three of its students after their very first semester.</p>
