We visited WPI and came away with a very favorable impression. Compact campus. Seemingly engaged students. Lake Jr. received relatively decent financial aid but ultimately chose another STEM school, but I suspect he would have enjoyed being a WPI student.

I wish Lake Jr. had applied to RIT, as I had met a senior administrator from the school in professional settings some time back. Some under-the-radar schools to think about that have significant ties to the auto-industry and might toss some financial aid your way are U of Alabama-Tuscaloosa and Clemson U. Another unsung (at least nationally) place to investigate is U of Akron, which has ties to the Firestone Research & Technology Center.

I love the idea of northeastern., heard great things about it and I really like the idea of a coop program
I am intrigued by Clemson and their ties to BMW… Wondering how the program is and how it is regarded… Thanks for pointing it out

I think RIT is awesome but as it is 10 minutes from our house it is not so appealing… I think I will have him tour it and maybe use it as a safety ?.. We have been to some open house things there and are really impressed with the kids and the things they are working on

Definitely look at Northeastern. Students have to do co-op (officially called Experiential Learning), but it’s a real advantage when all are on rotation. Being able to live on (or near) campus and continue with college friends/clubs is a nice perk too. DS liked the fact that is had urban conveniences yet at the core areas is still “campus-y”. When we were looking at college, there were info sessions tours everyday in the summer, but one day per week had dedicated Engineering info session.

Terry, If he makes National Merit Finalist think about TX A&M College of Engineering. The scholarships for NMFs are, minimum, full tuition and sometimes a lot higher. The engineering program is highly ranked and the atmosphere is highly collaborative. Recently, A&M was also ranked #1 happiest campus in the country. Full disclosure, my son attends and is loving it.

Just wondering BryMan92 what you think of the 7 week terms at WPI?
Eyemgh my son was accepted to both WPI and Case with similar awards. Wondering what you all think of the class sizes at Case? The first year classes seem very large. How would you all rank the MechE with these schools if you are looking for a school that is not cut throat. Also, interested in hearing what you think of RIT.
