Some application questions - supplements, etc.

First question: I attended a summer school as a rising junior from which I received an
'Academic Progress Report', it is quite positive ("-- has been a pleasure to teach; she is lively and enthusiastic as well as polite and conscientious. She has the ability to lead others by example and encourages the whole class to participate. We wish her every success in the future.... Her approach to the entire course has been fantastic.", blahblah). Is this something to include in my application? Or is it too insignificant? Or is it even imperative that I add it, since it is sort of 'transcript like' (they also give me tips to improve)?

Second question: I want to add some research projects (they are quite high level, with university professors) to my app as a supplement, the problem is, they are quite long (one is almost 50 pages, one is 30, etc.) and I have some published essays as well, that I'd like to add... I really loved doing the research, and it all relates to my intended major! Will admissions commitees appreciate this? Or will they just be annoyed? And if I decide to include the papers, I should probably include a short summary of their contents right?

Thanks a lot in advance!

I’m not an expert in any of these fields, but as a senior who’s applying right now, I’ll give you my answer. Hopefully it will help.

From what I understand, colleges pretty much only look at the letter grade/percentage, whatever is listed on your transcript. The comments on your progress report seem like material for a recommendation letter and are probably comments that can help teachers or counselors write you one, although I probably would leave out the tips to improve part. Colleges ask for n official transcript, so if those comments aren’t on the transcript, they will not be a part of your application. But as I mentioned above, you can suggest them as recommendation letter material.

As for the research projects issue, I am very doubtful that colleges will read 50 or 30 page research papers. Look into the science supplement for the specific schools that you’re interested in and they will have further instructions and whether or not they accept them. Even if they do, I’m sure you’ll want to include an abstract at the beginning summarizing your work.

Hope that helped.
