Hi! Dartmouth is by far my top choice for college, but I didn't want to apply ED because I hope to raise my SAT/ACT scores in the upcoming weeks. I will be applying RD in the next few weeks. My English teacher, who I've had for two years of AP English, went to Dartmouth, and I asked him to write me a recommendation specifically for Dartmouth. Do you think this type of recommendation will help more than a general recommendation from a teacher who did not attend Dartmouth? Thanks!

Another question: For the peer recommendation, I asked the person who was my cross country, nordic skiing, and track and field coach for all four years of high school. Is this an acceptable person to write the recommendation, or should it be a fellow student, or other group of people?

as said on their website…
" Anyone you consider to be a peer (this should not be a letter from someone who is an adult presence in your life)"

Oh whoops. I was using what the commonapp said.

Your cross country, nordic skiing, and track and field coach for all four years of high school, is not your peer and should not be used for your peer recommendation.

If you are using the common app, your recommender should not use tailored letters, because they go out to every school (you will not be able to go back in to edit them).

from the common app:

Thank you! Thankfully, I have not yet submitted my application, and have asked someone else to write the recommendation. Do you know if Dartmouth puts an emphasis on any specific part of the application? I know that it’s an Ivy, so everything matters, but is there any one thing that may matter more than others?

On the common app, that “other” recommender can be a coach, non-academic teacher, boss, or peer. But the Dartmouth web site seems to stress peers only. Anybody know what the story is?

What is unclear about this? [Peer Evaluation](<a href=“Apply to Dartmouth | Dartmouth Admissions”>Apply to Dartmouth | Dartmouth Admissions)

Actually I used the letter from my founder of my exchange program and thought it could be my peer rec.(he mailed it)…but i only found out that “it should not be adult presemce” when deadline was way passed…my status said not completed so i emailed them…they apologized and updated my status saying that wouls treat that leeter as my peer rec…but it was still ok to email them with a peer rec…

It seems they dont really care about peer rec…but of course wed better be clear about their requirements…everything will be less complicated

Oh … I think they care very much about the peer recommendation. Please do not give others a false impression just because you may have managed to skate after failing to read the instructions carefully.

Sorry if you find it an unforgivable comment…like i said i do suggest everyone read the instructions very carefully…i was only offering an “anecdote”( if you will) based on what I’ve experienced and my acceptance to the college…wish you best luck :)

i don’t know why the common app doesn’t make this more widely known, but you can create multiple versions of the common app. There should be a copy function somewhere and then you can tailor your common app version 1 to Dartmouth. The format changed this year so I don’t know where exactly you have to go to do this but it’s there just look for it.
