Hello. =) I'm an international student looking for a good school for civil engineering with the following criteria:

-affordable/good international aid/lots of scholarship opportunities
-good weather
-school spirit!
-medium to large sized student population (5k+ -ish)

I really liked some schools in Canada but that was before I remembered how easily I get cold and catch them too!
I'd love any suggestions of any Canadian/European schools that fit!

And by good weather I don't mean something like Australian summer all year round! Just something...nice? Fine with a cold winter, just not all year round. :x

Oh, sorry. What I wanted to say was, Berkeley Engineering’s student population is less than 4k, so it should fit in your criteria. Berkeley could be expensive for an international student though. But I know someone from Kuwait who got a full scholarship to Berkeley Eng’g, and another one from the Philippines for computer science. And, another one from England for materials engineering. I’m not sure how they’ve got it. They’ve probably got an “outside” sponsor. By “outside” I mean, private organizations not directly connected to Berkeley. Try contacting Shell Petroleum. I know they used to sponsor deserving students to study at Berkeley.

Oh, okay! Thanks for the info - I didn’t know about private companies sponsoring students!

Are there any more suggestions? I read about the University of Minnesota on another thread and really like the sound of it. Does anyone know of any other good schools like that with affordable OOS tuition?

RML mentioned the right schools, which meet your conditions. You need to think lots of international want to study science and engineering program in the U.S, simultaneously applying financial aid. If you need F.A, you should apply to private school, because State schools like U.C school does not provide financial Aid to international as far as I know. So think about Rice, Harvey Mud, which have so good engineering program, nearly give any FA to internationals. In other words, if you receive F.A from them, you can be easily accepted to Stanford also. Caltech selects internationals below 10% of their students, around 30 persons, being brutally competitive. Thus it is a right way that you first show us your stat and later we discuss colleges.
