Some Constructive Criticism Please

Hello, I am new to this discussion board. I was wondering if any of you would share your opinion on my application to Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences as a psychology major.

I am an 18-year-old caucasian male from Texas.

Stats
SAT I: 1410/1600 (Math: 740; Critical Reading: 670; Writing: 650)
SAT II: Math IC: 750; Literature: 650

I attend a very large (3400+), very competitive public high school.
GPA: 94 (top 20% of class)
Senior Classes and Midyear grades:
AP European History-88
AP Physics-96
AP Psychology-94
AP Calculus-97
AP Macroeconomics-93
AP English-97
Varsity Choir
Model UN

My average from my freshman and sophomore years significantly bring down my average, but I have also taken on a rigorous course load. I hope that Cornell is willing to look at my midyear grades as a better reflection of my potential.

Extracurricular Activities and Awards:

Model United Nations (10-12)

I have won several “Best Delegate” awards, including awards from Yale, University of Chicago, and Trinity University.

Guitar Club (9-12)

I have coordinated several performances for school and charity.

Varsity Choir (11-12)
Latin Club (9-11)
Film Club (9-12)
JETS (12)
Volunteer work (9-12)
Freshman Basketball (9)
Work Experience (10-11)

I worked for a little over a year at a movie theater as a “Shift Leader”. This is where I spent most of my time, working about 35 hours a week, during my sophomore and junior years.

Then, of course, there are the usual activities (NHS, Honor Roll, Who’s Who, etc…)

I have great recommendations, just like everyone else.

I wrote very good essays, which, in my opinion, compensate a little for my lower GPA. I’d be happy to PM them to you if you are interested in reading them.

Also, I had an alumni interview in December that went unusually well. The interviewer all but told me that I was already accepted, and that she’d write me a great recommendation, which didn’t make sense to me because I was under the impression that the interview had no impact on the application.

That’s it. I’d really appreciate some constructive criticism.

i think u have a great chance

good luck applications went up 15% this year a total of 28000. hope your appllcation is memborable.

Thanks guys, I heard that the acceptance rate is down to around 21%, so I'm a lot less optimistic now. Good luck to everyone.
