I had set up all this data in a great looking chart and went to post it and got autologged out and lost it all (I know fail for putting it straight onto the forum). Long and the short of it is there are 18079 people who accept spots at these schools each year. In the US there are 2.9 high school graduates 290000 of them therefore are in the top 10% of their class. if you assume that only 90% of those in the top 10% go to college and that only 50% of those in the top 10% get above a 680 on all sections of the SAT that would mean that only 14% of those that were in the top 10% and got a above a 680 on all sections of the SAT would be able to get int IVY+MIT,Stanford, Amherst, Swathmore. Also there are about 36000 valedictorians which means if each of these schools only took valedictorians then only half the valedictorians could get into one of these schools. Just to put into perspective how difficult admissions can be.
