I am looking for some feedback from someone who attends Wells. Is there enough to do there? How are the guys treated there? What started out as a side trip while looking at colleges, turned into a very impressive visit. My son and I were very impressed with everything about the school. I would love to hear from some students who attend to get a feel for the school. Any feedback would be appreciated as Wells seems to be in his top three colleges (well ahead of some really good schools). I am most interested in if male students are accepted or not and whether this is really an up and coming college (as it appeared to me that it was).

I graduated a long time ago, so can't give you up to date info, however, I did hear that the class voted for class president .......and a boy won! That was certainly surprising to us old timers. So I guess the women are accepting the boys!!!!!
As far as things to do....Ithaca is a 30 minute drive away(Cornell) We had a Wells shuttle van that made several trips a day. You could take classes at Cornell. In my day the school attracted a studious group. Some studying took place on the weekends. Don't know if this is still true. The academics were strong and very close interactions with professors. The small size allowed lifelong friendships to be made. It was a very special place and alums speak passionately about it for a lifetime.

Thank you so much for your answer. It is a very interesting school and I was very impressed with everything I saw. Any other thoughts by anyone out there?

It is now a month later (about) and my son is starting to really think about where he is going to attend college. While he is still waiting to hear from some (Hamilton, Bennington, Colgate, and Skidmore), Wells seems to have really interested him. We would really like to hear form those out there who know Wells and have some thoughts about the school. Thanks!

Can't give you any inside poop on Wells, however we too were very impressed with our visit the school and my daughter applied.

Highlights...beautiful campus, intimate scale, unique and comfortable library, great dorms, uncommonly well-decorated common areas (thanks to Pleasant Rowland), the lake, new science center.

Detractions...isolated, nothing to do in Aurora, surrounded by hardscrabble country

The reasonable tuition/coed formula seems to be turning things around. I believe they enrolled the largest incoming class in quite some time this fall.

After all our college visits still in the upper echelon for consideration.

I agree. After looking at many colleges, including several really good ones, Wells just seems like a good fit for my son. After getting a really good merit award, the finances seem almost crazy to pass up. We are going back up in a couple weeks to check it out again, but I think it may have gone to the top of his list. I am very impressed with everything about the college and could not be happier if he was going to Harvard. It is funny that a 6'5" jocky young man would like a school like Wells. It speaks volumes about what they are trying to do that a kid like this feels he can fit in there. I do not know where he will end up, but Wells is definitely in the running. I hope your daughter goes there too.

Your son and I applied to an almost identical list of schools. Wells, Hamilton, Colgate, Skidmore....

That is really cool. I think it is great that the two of your lists are the same except for Ithaca College. I know that we talk at least once a week about college and Wells is still at the top of his list. He told me today, "Dad let's only talk about the schools I have gotten in to." I thought that was a great school of thought for a high school senior. Anyways, hope your spring goes well!

That's a great mentality! I've adopted "optimistic but realistic." And unlike your son, I haven't heard of any acceptances/rejects. Although I did come home today to a message from Wells saying that my application was going in front of committee tomorrow. I thought it was a nice but somewhat unnecessary call...

Well, I think that means good news! I also think that Wells is an up and coming college. We are going to visit again in the next couple weeks. My son is very interested in the new basketball team and if he goes there, wants to be a part of it. I also teach with a graduate of Wells who just loved going there and really wants to see my son there. Let me know when you hear.

Just wanted to stop by and let you know that I got my acceptance letter in the mail from Wells last week.

That is great - Congrats! Have you heard from any other schools? It seems like you are an in at everywhere you applied. Do you have a top choice or still thinking? Anyways, congrats again for getting in!

The Goddess Aurora has spoken. My daughter got her acceptance letter Saturday.

Looks like we need to do a follow up visit too.

Hey that is good news! Congrats to your daughter!

I only have my Wells acceptance, so I'll have to wait until April to make any real decisions. I'm glad that my first acceptance is somewhere I actually want to go!

And I got confused when you said, "It seems like you are an in at everywhere you applied." Maybe my brain has finally shut down from midterms...
