So right now I am in the process of determining where to go next fall, and I am leaning heavily toward UVa...i was accepted as an OOS student and the only other schools I am considering are UNC Chapel Hill (also OOS) and Georgetown, where I am on the waitlist (obviously not holding my breath)

I'm really excited for UVa since there is little doubt that I'll be there next fall, but what is the integration like between OOS students and Virginians? I've heard that it's extremely cliquey and that you either "love or hate" the school, so I was wondering to what degree that was true. Obviously I'm going to go into this with a really open mind and I'm excited to be a cavalier next fall, so any opinions at all are appreciated!

I don’t know anyone who hates UVA. We have an extremely high retention rate (very little transferring away). I don’t think it’s cliquey, in fact we just have so many activities which means you can be a part of quite a few and have many circles of friends (that is how everyone I know is, many circles of friends).

I’m out of state and most of my friends are from rural in state areas. I love it. I think I would worry less about OOS vs IS and concentrate on just making friends you will get along with instead – ie who says you will get along with someone more based on where they’re from? It’s a huge state school, everyone is their own person no matter whether they’re from rural VA, NOVA, or OOS, or international, etc. I have friends from all of those places and they all like eachother, so it is not really about that.

Yeah I’ve never met anyone who hates UVa once they’re here. I know a few people who said they would never want to go here but now they’re here and love it. It’s not cliquey, and there is basically 0 segregation between OOS and IS. If you get involved in activities you can make friends really quickly and it’s awesome :)
