Some Good Lesser Selective Colleges?

I know that University of Michigan had a 51% admissions rate last year, and I know that it is getting harder every year, but what are some other less selective colleges that are around 50%?

University of Connecticut, for one. Acceptance rate was 50-51% in 2010, and around 49% this year.

When you’re considering selectivity remember to keep in mind how you stack up against the statistically average freshman. For example per the collegeboard site, at Michigan 84% of freshman were in the top 10% of their high school class and the average SAT (M+CR+W) was 2000 at Connecticut 44% were in the top 10% and the average SAT was 1820. They may have the same admit rates but the competitive pool is different. The College Search screener on CC does a good job of providing a list of possible schools based on your criteria (including selectivity). Check it out under the Main CC Site heading.

FWIW, Michigan switched to the CommonApp this year and is rumored to have seen a 20% jump in applications. If that’s true the admit rate will fall to around 40%
