I am confused what is the difference between my VIP account and my Self Service Account. I received info how to set my VIP password. I can log into my Self Service Account but not my VIP account. Which do I use for signing up for housing?

Obviously things may change from year to year, but info on admissions still has housing application accessed through VIP. Log in and click “personal” link on left and see if housing comes up as option.

I cant log onto VIP…that is my problem. Could it have to do with USC switching from VIP to Self Carolina Service in January?

Are you an incoming freshman? the website says housing applications will be available in January…

Yes I will be a freshman…I am worried that I cant log into VIP and sign up for housing in January

My son did the self service. There isn’t anything there on housing. If you go to the housing site they pointed us to, to sign up for housing it says it will be up in January. So I’m assuming that is where we will be able to sign up for housing. I don’t know what VIP is… I wouldn’t worry about it until they get back to school. Once the housing application is out there I’m sure it will work. If not then you can call them. I can’t imagine they are going to fill up on freshman housing in the first day or so.:)

OK, so did some checking and Self Service Carolina (SSC) is the student system which is replacing VIP, the current way students register, handle financial transations, apply for housing etc. Current students (D is one) haven’t really gotten info on it yet (or haven’t read it:)! ) It goes into effect with fall 2013 students…all of y’all. For current students, they still use VIP for spring and summer sessions, but will use SSC starting in fall. That’s probably why you are still using some VIP info to set up your account, since they are still in transition. I would just get your VIP/SSC number as they tell you to in your info and then check back every now and then. When D was freshman, I found instructions to get VIP number very confusing and took several attempts. Follow directions carefully and if still can’t get a number, call USC.

Thanks for all the help

Yea, I checked with D and she says they (current students) don’t know about SSC yet, so you won’t get any help on the forum from current students. If you can’t get info you need from packet you may have to call, but be aware that some staff and faculty are still learning about it (evidently informed in Nov). Now surely departments like admissions and financial aid and housing that deal with new admits are up to speed, but there is still a chance that calling over holidays with people covering other jobs, you won’t get an answer. Just be patient! Congrats on getting in to USC!

Yeah. They haven’t told us anything about the new program. Personally, I love VIP. It’s really simple, straightforward, and user-friendly, so I don’t know why they’re bothering to change it, but current students know nothing about the new system other than what’s been reported in the Daily Gamecock.

I called and they said the housing application would be available in february.

From what I can tell, SSC is USC’s customized name for Bannerweb which lots of schools use.
