Hi all,

I was filling out the UC form today, and have a few queries.

Firstly, there is this section that asks for an alternative number. It only allows you to key in 7 digits (after the country code is keyed in), but my phone number is 8 digits long. What should i do?

Also, maybe I am blind or something, but I cant seem to find the "Undecided" option in the choice of majors. I chose CS at first, but after reading the stickied post on CC, I think I want to choose undecided because I want to try out new things. But I cannot find the button! Can someone help me out?

And lastly, ugh it seems that the UC application severely limits the amount of information that you can put in. For example, I have a lot of ECs, but I am only allowed to put 5. Are we able to upload additional information (eg a resume)? What about other forms of creative work that we did (just as a music video or animation)?

And finally, does UC accept additional recommendations from mentors and coaches other than the mandatory few?

Thank you very much!

I just started UC app too. I believe UC neither require recommendation letter nor consider it. I’m not sure about UC yet, but the other schools I applied to, which accept common application, I just sent my entire resume through mail (common app doesn’t have enough room neither). Well, from my experience of other applications, I strongly encourage you to directly contact to UC. If you go UC application website, there is their e-mail address and phone number. I hope this helped!

And finally, does UC accept additional recommendations from mentors and coaches other than the mandatory few?

Are recommendations mandatory?

I was thinking high school official transcripts and recommendations are NOT mandatory? Can some one please confirm

No recommendations are considered at all except for a few rare exceptions, when Cal (or UCLA which is the only other campus that does this) will request supplemental information from you and send you a single web link to have one person fill out their one recommendation online. Otherwise, no recommendations.

Transcripts are only used to verify that your self-reported grades were correct, and that verification is only done by the campus you have agreed to attend, after you get an acceptance, choose them and are beginning down the paperwork path that leads to your dorm room next year. Except for incoming students, no transcripts.

No additional information, no resumes. It all has to fit in the online application. The ‘additional essay’ prompt (or whatever they use now as a free form place to add any important points you wish) is the place to report the things you think most significant. If you have more than five ECs that are so strong that they might tip the decision, add them in the free form spot. If you have an artistic or other achievements, while you don’t submit them with the app, if you mention them in the free form it is a good thing. If they seem like they might be material to a decision, Cal will contact you later and request supplemental information, an online questionnaire asking more about the creative achievement (plus then you are allowed to enter first half senior year grades and get a link to submit the one recommendation).

simp1eton - pick ANY major that is offered in the college of letters and sciences and you are considered undeclared - doesn’t matter what you put down, that is how admissions will evaluate you.

Hi rider730,

Thank you for the information! And sorry to everyone whom I misled by saying that recommendations are needed. I didn’t know that you don’t need them lol XD.
