Some more chances

yea, thats EXACTLY what i was thinking. If i can make it into CIT/TEPPER/MCS im going to work hard and get a transfer + i want to double major in business so getting into tepper wont be that bad hmm.

Um.. have you seen SCS avg starting salaries? They are higher than any other school (even MIT) at around 70k starting!

You definitely dont' need a business double major as SCS majors work in both business and computer fields.

Not to mention, a double major in SCS is pretty academic suicide. Few SCS people double major as the courseload itself is time-consuming and hard. Getting a 3.0+ in SCS is pretty much guaranteed top places like the new Google (CMU professor heads this company sect in Pitts) and Microsoft, IBM, etc.

Risking a double major and lowering your GPA below your peers may not be a good idea.

Remember to work hard and basically as long as you keep above a 3.0 freshman gpa, you can easily transfer as long as you TAKE THE NECESSARY CLASSES.

Once you take those classes, the gates will open. I do not know the exact names/course pre-requisites so you can check 'em later if you get in or do more research over the summer.

heh:) well depending on how hard the classes are for me i will choose from there i suppose. (i still think double majoring is cool -> i tend to commit suicide a lot [ taking 10 classes this year LOL ] )

(but im maintaining a 3.9 this year so not bad:P

hmm, odd. I've been hearing from my friend (freshman at scs currently) that SCS is extremely hard to TRANSFER into and even people who have contributed to the linux kernel could not get in. However, that it is very possible to double major in.

I say go for an MBA rather than a business major. Nowadays a business degree is in order for comp sci majors since most of them go into management.

I doubt few people double major SCS as SCS students are required to take a minor. I would think that it wouldn't be too many classes to tack on in order to double major.

I was curious too so I tallied up the numbers from the 2005 graduation booklet (which I attended). Quite an accomplished group:

In the program of 153 SCS graduates:

--27 had no other major or minor, just CS major, so maybe it isn't a set in stone requirement after all, or else they just aren't listed.

--74 had one minor plus CS major

--20 had double minor plus CS major

--6 earned one additional major and a minor in addition to CS major

--25 double majored with CS

--1 (my favorite:)) triple major and a minor. She majored in CS, Engineering and Public Policy, and European Studies, PLUS minored in French.....jeez

also this doesn't include (not listed) those who also got a masters in something (S was one so there must have been others).

Yea they are required a minor. Lots of people apparently do a ECE/CS double major here.

Since the two are so similar. A business/CS is harder than say, CS/writing or CS/ECE.
