Some music recommendations for everyone

yucca & alamode are right-where's MJ and Nirvana? :p

you forgot oasis and nirvana and the arctic monkeys and the shins and the strokes and muse and several others! =P

All good bands, but none of them did anything that hasn't been done before.

Btw the point of this thread wasn't to cover all the bases of every good band in modern music. It was just to point out the albums that I feel are at its absolute peak.

I have over 1300 albums, so this is supposed to be a very selective list.

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Nas - Illmatic
Beastie Boys - Paul's Botique
Madvillain - Madvillainy
The Roots - Things Fall Apart
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory

word up that is a righteous list

i mean it's not my top 50 (i would have put the rap on there, and biggie instead of madvillain, but everybody is going to have different opinions) and all in all that is an entirely respectable list of good albums

i just noticed the inclusion of MBV, good pick

Nice list. I'd add College Dropout, Paid in Full, and hell Stankonia (as far as personal favorites).

What a Feeling by Peter Luts and Dominico

Amnesiac > OKC > Kid A.

At first i gave each album a rank but then i decided to break it up into tiers.

OKC=Kid A=Amnesiac>HTTT=In Rainbows>The Bends>Pablo Honey

The Smiths' The Queen is Dead? Where is it?

Oh, and I realllly don't think Modest Mouse belongs on a list of the best albums in the last 50 years. Nice Bob Dylan shout-out, though.

On the overrated list :P

Kindofblue, you're my hero. I have at least 95% of that stuff. And I paid for it all too. Always good to see Autechre and the Wu-Tang on the same run down. A little Aphex Twin to go with the Portishead, a De La Soul record, Amon Tobin's entire catalogue, Endtroducing by DJ Shadow, and it's nearly perfect. Also, you may want to check out Music Is Rotted One Note by Squarepusher. Call it a hunch.

Edit: I blanked. Where on earth is all the righteous, classic funk and soul? No James Brown, no Sly, and no Stevie. At least throw The Meters on there. No one doesn't like The Meters. At the barest minimum, Songs in the Key of Life and Live at the Apollo.

YouTube - Lupe Fiasco - Kick Push
YouTube - Lupe Fiasco- Put You On Game
YouTube - Nickelback - If Everyone Cared (video)

One genre I have really not explored. Aside from Funkadelic and Prince, anyways.
