Some ND questions

Howdy

I've recently been accepted to ND and have a few questions before I send in my deposit. My knowledge of ND beyond football and tradition is not very comprehensive D: .

1.) Are there any prestigious or nationally competitive programs or majors at ND?

2.) Are the dorms coed?

3.) Is there a lot to do around campus or in south bend itself?

4.) How is the weather?

5.) If you are a ND Scholar, do is benefit you in anyway?

Thanks for helping me out!

You're best bet is to look around this forum, all of these questions have been answered in pretty substantial detail, but for short answers:

The business school was recently ranked #7 in the country, so that's pretty prestigious. Our Philosophy Department is ranked one of the best in the world. We have the only Irish Language and Literature Program outside of Ireland. Our med school acceptance rate is very, very high.

No. Not by room, not by section, not by floor. Single-sex only.

There is plenty of things to do, although SB is not exactly a bustling metropolis.

Sucks. Winter is miserable. But fall and spring are gorgeous, and it definitely makes up for the cold and the snow.

You get more grant aid in your financial aid package (i.e. more money that you don't have to pay back, as opposed to loans).

I would also add that our science program is very good, as some of the most important scientific discoveries of the twentieth century came out of our labs. Further, South Bend has some good restaurants and the South Bend Symphony, but generally speaking you're not going to leave campus too often unless you go off campus to drink. That doesn't matter, though, because campus offers so much to do! There are lots of posts on these topics, especially the recent "Tell me about the dorms."

1.) Are there any prestigious or nationally competitive programs or majors at ND?

Business is very good as is our pre-med program. Also, our Theology and Philosophy are about as good as you can find anywhere. Truthfully though, all of the programs here are good. I know, that sounds bogus, but it is true and it is one of the strengths of ND. You are going to have good classes and good professors in any major you select.

2.) Are the dorms coed?

No

3.) Is there a lot to do around campus or in south bend itself?

I think there is a lot to do, but it depends on you and what you like to do. If you are looking for something I am sure you will find something to do around here. If not, Chicago is only an hour and a half away.

4.) How is the weather?

Bad time to ask! The weather is typical midwest, it gets cold in the winter and can be gloomy, but it is pretty nice IMO in the spring and fall. Think Chicago weather, it is pretty similar.

5.) If you are a ND Scholar, do is benefit you in anyway?

I think it helps you with financial aid but that is the extent of it. I am not sure though.

Thanks for helping me out!

1.) Are there any prestigious or nationally competitive programs or majors at ND?

Some of the highlights were mentioned above, but pretty much every field is top-notch.

2.) Are the dorms coed?

Nope. Also, guys must be out of girls' dorms by midnight/2 AM on weekends and vice versa.

3.) Is there a lot to do around campus or in south bend itself?

On campus, there is a ton of stuff to do. In South Bend, not so much.

4.) How is the weather?

There are some really nice days in the fall and spring, but it does rain a lot. A lot of people hate the winter, but it happens to be my favorite season. We do get a fair amount of snow, which I love. But I'm weird that way...

5.) If you are a ND Scholar, do is benefit you in anyway?

It's supposed to help with financial aid. I was a ND scholar, but wasn't eligible for any finaid, so I can't attest to that.
