I am looking to major in psychology or sociology. Want to go on to law.

Thank you =]

Harvey Mudd does not even have a psychology or sociology major. I think you might have us confused with some place else.

oops so sry. no if i go to harvey mudd i will major in mathematics. it is an old post i copied and pasted and forgot to change the major. sorry for the bad capitalization, both of my shift keys are busted.

You have a good chance. You should definitely apply (but make sure you are okay with majoring in only math/science, you can off-campus major/minor though too).

well you could minor at hmc as well and then major off campus, unless I am mistaken

SheSays, I have now read a number of your posts on CC and would like to give you a detailed response.

I have no doubt that if you continue strongly in your academic work you will be able to get into HMC. You have a moderately high GPA, great ECs, and im sure your standardized test scores will be strong as well.

However, considering the situation that you presented in a different topic I would heavily recommend to you the Corporate Scholars Program, "4-year renewable full-tuition scholarship that promotes excellence and diversity at HMC." Your situation seems to be what this program was made for, and in addition to that you being a female would be of great benefit to your chances. There is also a Merit based award for people who get 750M, 700W, 700V on their SATS, (more guidelines) which will cover an additional $10,000 in pricing.

Other than that, I wanna say keep up the good work and try and do some research in your intended major; it could help with getting scholarships at the least.

see links:

Ditto to everything Seiken said.

Ahh thank you Seiken. I have no idea how to do research. Any thoughts?

And I believe now I may go to HMC and minor in math and then off campus major in sociology if I can do that. I really like HMC though and it sucks. They do have a humanities program but is that just courses? Or is it an actual major?

Getting research as a high school student would indeed be tough, but not impossible. There are 2 ways to approach it.

Going at it by yourself, with perhaps a mentor. A mentor could be one of your high school teachers. Ultimately you come up with your own 'science project' (human behavior is a category) and then perform some tests, and then run it through the science fair and/or other competitions. This has the benefit of showing initiative as well as having some real swell payback if you do well. Had I had the time to prepare for the CA state science fair, I could have easily done better than 4th and possibly gotten up to 10 grand. (incomplete submission >_>) There is also intel and other things.

Find a researcher who would not mind a helping hand. You could contact somebody from a local college, or even a well known one. Many colleges offer summer stipends for people who work in labs over the summer; all you have to do is find a sponsor, which can be done via emails. You could possibly do this out of state. ("I flew 1500 miles to do research at UCLA, for money,," sounds nice doesnt it). There are many programs out there also with this as a theme and it just takes some googling to find.

I just found:

its humanities with a mudd kick to it.
