Some people just .... *sigh*

Its a class full of girls but I feel they all have an innate negative disposition towards me because I look scary with a goatee and... I'm Muslim.

Oh, get over it. No one gives an f that you're Muslim.

As for people thinking you're gay...there's nothing you can do about it, so just ignore it. There's nothing wrong with being gay, so I don't know why this bothers you. Maybe because you're insecure about your sexuality?

What I meant about being muslim is that they know I am religious ...

No, I just don't want people getting the wrong idea. Why shouldn't it upset me? Its not who I am, not saying anything wrong about being gay.

Either way, I guess I will just ignore it, and even if they were kidding, I guess there is no harm.

this is just a huge side effect of our genetic makeup.

What does being religious have to do with having a disposition against you? No one cares if you're religious.

Gotta admit, I would joke around with you and call you gay if you were my friend or not. However, I obviously wouldn't mean it. Most guys do that in a joking manner. I dunno man. It depends. But I wouldn't let it get to you. Just throw it back, but don't spaz out about it or act like you are "higher than". That makes them hate you more. I know this from experience.

"What does being religious have to do with having a disposition against you? No one cares if you're religious"

That isn't exactly true, Central Perky

Akhamed, I'm not a guy, but I live in a very conservative town, and guys get made fun of if they take chorus. I wouldn't take their jokes that seriously.

I'll throw in my two cents.

In the SLC (small learning community) that I'm in, they REQUIRE that junior year, both the men and the women take a Focus on Women In Literature Class. The men come away extremely changed by it, and the girls build confidence in their sex because they learn that women actually contributed.

Just ignore them...you're doing something different. People are afraid of that which is different.

And take some time to really get to know the girls in your class...you'll probably come away with some great friends. :) We don't bite.

Much.

They are probably just joking, try to smile and joke back with them. Don't take them too seriously and stress about it. That's how some people are, and sometimes it works for opening the lines of communication. You'll probably make friends with them.

I know many years ago, I would take offense to anything that anybody said if it had any intimation of being a slight to me. I wouldn't talk to them back, and it'd be really awkward and the animosity would grow between us. Making jokes back to them allows you to get to know each other and keep a conversation between you two.

Just don't take anything too seriously, it's all in good fun.

I guess you guys are right. I'll take it easy with them, they are just probably playing. It would just be disturbing to me that someone who has known me for a while seriously doubts me because of one class. We all have different perspectives. Thanks guys... and gals.
