Me:

I am a first generation immigrant, my parents were doctors in our country of origin but my dad had to work as a taxi driver here for 5 years before he was able to pass board exams, was the victim of racially motivated assault

I was on welfare for elementary school-early middle school (4 years)

I speak 3 languages

Lots of other tear jerking stuff i'll save for the letters, basically, economically stressed parents would always fight, etc, but through dedication and hard work my family banded together and succeeded in America

Other:

I am missing a third of my brain, i have an arachnoid cyst the size of a large grapefruit where my forebrain should be.

I have had to deal with excruciatingly painful headaches because of this, miss days and days of school to go to my neuro-surgeon.. (still have it, surgery too riskful) I dont have day to day problems with it but it was particularly bad during my junior year, i got my C in spanish and Bs in other classes because i would be taking a test and lose vision halfway through and lose feeling in my arms so school became difficult for a while.. went away on its own... doctors cant really explain it...

SPORTS:

Waterpolo 1 year - had to quit because of the brain thing

Swimming 2 years

Basically i am extremely good at philosophy, history, and english, i want to become a lawyer to help others and provide assistance where there was none for me.

Any more info needed?

Thanks everyone!!!

shameless self bump

Hello? Can anyone provide some input? Please?

Please can anyone provide any input

Your SAT scores are a bit below the Columbia standard, but the fact that you have all of these stories that will elicit raw emotion means you should have some really good essays. If you want me to edit them personal message me and I’ll get you my email. But keep in mind I’m a harsh grader haha. The fact that you’re a first generation immigrant will actually help you, and you can explain why you got those Bs and that C in your additional information section by addressing it directly. All in all, I would say you definitely have a chance. You’ve accomplished a lot and I think your 800+ hours of volunteering is a really unique and strong thing to have. Good job and good luck.

haha you’ll definitely get in, in my opinion.

i mean, you could bring up your score a bit, but i dont think it makes much of a difference. you’re in a great spot
