I have two questions:
(1) What are the conditions for voiding the early decision contract because of financial aid? Can someone, for example, just claim the the financial aid is not enough, and then be released from the contract?

(2)Also, how does one interview with a jhu alumnus? Nowhere on the application does it provide interview details, eventhough admissions does recommend one.

The website says, "If your aid is not met, you may be released from the binding early decision agreement." It is possible but don't a) apply early, then apply elsewhere and if you are accepted somewhere you'd rather go, claim you can't pay for Hopkins and don't b) apply early if you need financial aid. I applied ED and received a good amount of aid for my families income. Further, I'm sure you have to provide some form of proof that indeed you cannot afford Hopkins. I doubt getting released from and ED contract is easy.

Don't push it.

Check the admissions website, or Google "JHU alumni interview." Basically, either make an appointment on-campus, or request and alumni interview...but if you're looking into Hopkins, you're surely smart enough to find this info on your own...

It's all on the website.

interviews are just informative, not evaluative right? i dont want to not get an interview and have that hurt my application =[

Correct, informative, not evaluative.

Thanks for the reply. However, i'm still unsure about the following statement:

"If we are unable to offer you adequate need-based financial aid, you may be released from the Early Decision contract."

What entails "adequate need-based financial aid"? Does JHU determain what's adequete for you? Also, in the actual early decision agreement, there is no mention about voiding the contract for financial reasons. Why?

If you complete the ED Financial Aid application, Hopkins will provide you with a financial aid award along with your ED admit decision. The package will be based on your EFC (expected family contribution) and in almost all cases it will cover all your need that is determined by our financial aid formulas. This is a non-negotiable package.

If you determine the package is not adequate then you need to contact your Financial Aid Counselor to void your Early Decision agreement. You will not be able to be considered for admission during RD or change your mind if you void your ED contract.

This is not in the ED contract, because we do not want students applying if financial aid is a serious concern. We do not want students just applying if they can get out of the agreement because "they don't like the financial aid package." The voiding of an ED contract is very rare.

If financial aid is a chief concern, you should not apply ED!
