Some question about schedule & courses

Hi, everyone.
I'm currently a high school junior in Appleton. I'm extremely interested in Biology/Biochem area. I'm now taking the top courses (AP Bio and AP Chem) in both area in my school, so my counselor advises me to take some classes at Lawrence next year. Anyways, I visited the Lawrence website and I have some questions about schedule and some courses.
In a standard 6 units class, how many hours are you expected to spend on the class? I know in some other colleges the number of units represent the total hours, including lectures, labs, studying outside of class, a student is expected to spend on the class. Is Lawrence like this in counting units?
Also, what is Lawrence's placement policy? I checked all over the website, but it only very briefly said that one course credit will be given for any AP score of 4 or 5 and mentioned nothing about placement tests at all... Does Lawrence offer placement tests??
And some questions about BIOL 120 and BIOL 140. Is AP Biol sufficient to cover those two courses? A lot of other courses (especially the ones I want to take... Why is god being so cruel to me. ><) require either BIOL 120 or BIOL 140, but I'm really more interested in stuff like genetic and moleculer biology. I mean, I like animals and plants, too, but I'm just afraid these courses are like memorizing animals' species and stuff like that. For people who have taken (or are taking) BIOL 120 or BOL 140, can you share your thoughts about these two courses?
Thank in advance for replying.
Btw, it's really off topic, but I'm wondering what the dorm near the music academy is like inside. My mom and I nicknamed it "Lawrence Hotel", because it looks like a really fancy hotel from outside.

Vanita,
My D is at Lawrence in the conservatory. I can't answer all your questions but will make some suggestions beyond what I can answer. The classes that are 6 units typically meet for 3.5 hours per week. The time spent outside of class will vary from class to class and student to student. There are placement tests for Biology. I suggest you contact one of the Biology professors so that you can get the specific answers you need.

The residence hall nearest the conservatory on College Ave is Plantz and is a standard residence hall. Not sure what is "fancy" about it but its location is great if you're in the conservatory.

Good luck with your studies. Lawrence has a great science program -- including biochem.
