So I’ve already decided that I want to apply to Brown for fall 2010 and, the more I read about it, the more appealing it looks. Can anybody help me by answering a few questions?

Is there anything specific that Brown looks for in a transfer applicant or is their criteria pretty much in line with its peer institutions?

For successful transfers: Did you find that many/most of your credits transferred over?

For applied math/econ majors: What are your thoughts on the program? Is it enjoyable? Particularly have any of you taken the “Data, Statistics, Finance” class? Is job placement on to wall street pretty good? How about into good masters in finance or financial engineering programs?

My best standardized test score is a 30 on the ACT (retaking): since standardized test scores are optional for transfers, do you think that submitting this would help or hurt my chances?

If you can answer or partially answer any of these, please throw your two cents in, thanks!

Transfer credit depends on the class you took, where you took it, and which department you are transferring the credit to. That’s for applied credit. General credit was a breeze for me. You seem to know what exactly where your life is headed, bu this might change as undergraduate college is a moratorium.

Oh oops, I completely omitted the fact that I’d be applying from community college. I assume that because of this, virtually none of the classes will transfer towards a concentration? Only general credit?

Depends on the department advisor. I transferred one class as applied credit from my CC. I will tell you that only a few people from a CC are accepted to transfer, at least that’s what happened when I came in.

Wow is it really that much more difficult to get in as a CC transfer? As a successful CC-to-Brown transfer yourself, can you think of any general advice you could share for the application process, or any information you wish you knew when you were applying to Brown?

1) Can’t think of anything.
2) It’s because when you have people applying from Dartmouth and Cornell to transfer as well as many other somewhat less prestigious universities a CC doesn’t shine as much, but they are very holistic in decision making so the reason why you went to a CC and all that is taken into consideration.
