hey, I am an accepted student considering BC. I just had a couple questions about Newton campus. I really do not want to be housed at Newton, so I was wondering if it was true that if you wanted to triple, you will automatically be put on upper campus?

If I were to be on Newton, is it really that bad? I think I would hate to take the bus all the time, and it seems all the activity is on main campus. When do the buses run?

If you live on Newton now, do you like it? I know its not that far from main campus but is there anything to do around that area?

Thanks

You should check the CC archives. There are many old threads on this, because this topic comes up every year.

My son was initially very disappointed to be assigned to Newton, but ended up loving it. He wasn’t too happy about taking the bus, but he admitted that it gave him an opportunity to know many more people than he would have on Upper, since he saw the same people every day on the bus and waiting at the bus stop, and they all had something in common, because everyone living on Newton is a freshman. He also liked Stuart Dining Hall (generally considered to have better food), and the green fields on Newton were great for frisbee and informal soccer and touch football games.

I agree 100% with worriedmom. My daughter was initially disappointed but absolutely loved living on Newton. She felt she bonded with many great kids who are all still good friends (she is currently a junior). The bus was not a big deal as they run often and since everyone was a freshman on the Newton campus she developed wonderful friendships just by seeing familiar faces on the bus. Don’t look at being assigned to Newton as awful. It is great!

Nobody I know has ever regretted living on Newton. It’s a whole community on Newton Campus, and a lot of fun.

Newton is a a de facto social society throughout your four years. A common topic of conversation even among seniors pertains to where they lived freshman year. Living on Newton instills a certain sense of pride as silly as it may sound.

Everyone doesn’t want to live on Newton initially. You will come to like it, even with the bus. Newton Centre is a 15 minute walk, which has great little eateries, shops, and a CVS.

i went to an admitted eagle day about a month ago and a current freshmen said that newton certainly has its advantages, the rooms are a couple feet wider/longer than the rooms on main, which makes a difference. also, if you are housed in main campus there’s always the slight possibility that you are in a forced triple, meaning 3 ppl in a room that’s designed to house 2, yikes! the two freshmen i talked to said they loved newton.
