Some questions about Ross (after being admitted)

Hey guys,

So I just got admitted to Ross and now have a couple questions.

Is it true that your GPA resets once you enter? If so can someone provide me a link to a source that says so.

How hard is it really to duel major? I was considering comp sci...

I don't know how many people can help me with this question but here I go... I am also considering law school as an option once I graduate. How often do kids from Ross apply/get into top tier law schools. Also, do these schools look down on business degrees?

Thanks for your help!

Yes. Take my word. I asked my advisor.

It will be hard. Ross courses take up a lot of time b/c of hw and group projects. You’ll need to get a dual degree and complete the prereqs and other courses. Will definitely take 5 years. Is that worth the cost to you?

No idea.

Yes.

It will take you at least 5 years, most likely more than 5 years because of the complex nature and the amount of requirement of general COE courses, in addition to computer science.

Not as much a problem with Ross than a generic BBA program. It is a respected program. The same sentiment might be true for a lower tier BBA program, on the other hand. (For example, there were sayings about the reason most ivies and the very top colleges do not have undergraduate business program is because they consider business as a skill/trade, not an academia subject.). However, I doubt law schools would hold the same view about Ross as it is pretty highly regarded and I think Ross courses have more of an academic twist to it compared to the typical “business degree”. In any case, you should not be thinking about comp sci if you plan on going to law school, just like people applying to med school. Your gpa matters a lot, and you are putting yourself at a huge disadvantage.

One exception, if you want to do patent law, by all means go for comp sci, most inventions in the future will come digitally anyway.

** if you are thinking about going to corporate law i think Ross would even help you career-wise

2.) I know one guy doing a CS-BBA dual, but I’m not sure if he’s doing 5 years. Personally, I’m doing a CS minor with my BBA which is a lot more practical. You get the main CS core classes and a few electives, but you don’t have to deal with all the other time-consuming requirements. The required classes are EECS 203, 280, 281, 4XX elective.

3.) Applying from Ross, you should be in good shape. I know one girl who’s doing pre-law from Ross, but I’m sure there are a lot more.

a friend of mine from ross is going to be starting at yale law this fall, so i dont think law school is that much of a problem. on the other hand, he’s the only person i know going to law school from ross, so dont give much weight to that

if you want to do law school, going to ross isn’t going to hold you back, though realize that you’ll be one of the few people in your class planning on taking that path.

law school is very numbers driven. whatever path you do, make sure you are confident you can keep up your grades. i wouldn’t suggest ross/comp sci dual degree if law school is your goal.

Thanks for the input guys!
