I think I bombed my AP English Language test pretty hard this year, and I really want to withhold this score from colleges when I apply. I have two questions about this:
- If I withhold my AP Lang score, do I have to pay an additional $10 withholding fee for every college I want to send my AP scores to or is the $10 just a one time payment?
- If I withhold the AP Lang test score, would I still be eligible for AP Scholar Awards if I find out surprisingly I score a 4 or above on the AP Lang test (I don’t think there is a high chance but I just hope for it) even under the condition that this AP test score is being withheld?
You self-report AP exams on your applications, so just don’t report this one. Common guidance is to report only 4s and 5s on your application. The summer before you start college, you will have the CB send your actual scores to the school where you’ve enrolled so that you can get AP credit. It won’t matter if they see a bad score at that point – unless you lied about it on your application, which I’m sure you don’t plan to do.
I don’t know the rules for the AP Scholar awards (DS did mostly IB) but I thought you simply needed the required # of tests with specified scores and that if you had those, additional tests neither added to your award nor detracted from it. Don’t hold me to that – someone with more knowledge can answer with greater certainty.
@gardenstategal Okay, I probably won’t report my score for that test then if I don’t do well. Thanks for your help!
