Hello. I don't have the strongest GPA (due to the fact of the rigor of the rigor of the hardest high school in the area) and my SAT is decent but not Ivy league material. For these reasons, I didn't apply to any "dream schools."

I'm planning on going to an honors college next year.

I, however, want to transfer after a year or two years there.

Basically:

1) Is it better to transfer 1 or 2 years? (because of high school transcript, etc.)
2) Does Harvard, Yale, and Princeton accept transfers?
3) Are ECs important in college for transfers?

For soph transfers, HS record and test scores are weighted more than your college record; for jr transfers, your college record is more important. However, for the very selective colleges, you are required to send all records and so you should assume that everything is assessed to some degree.

All 3 schools clearly state their transfer policies on their respective websites. While CC is great for general discussions about college, always go the the primary source for questions like this.

Similar to fr admissions, AFTER academics, ECs are important.

what entomom said

H-yes Y-yes P-no:{

Depends on the caliber of the school. For the “elite” schools, ecs matter very much.

So, if I transfer after my 2nd year for a junior transfer spot, my college transcript will be weighted more?

My high school stats aren’t very good. (3.63 UW 3.72 W) (this is due to the fact that my teachers pick students for APs, and I was never picked) (1250 / 1930 SAT)

Even if you get a 4.0, you might not get into HY transfers. But yeah, you’d have better luck after 2 years due to HS transcript. Oh and you’ll need extracurriculars. LOTS of extracurriculars.

I decided to apply to only Penn and Cornell as a transfer student. Other than that Washington University in St Louis along with Georgetown are the only other elite universities I applied to as a transfer. I have a pretty high GPA and pretty good SAT scores, I am applying as a junior transfer to a lot of schools but I am also having some stress and anxiety.

I want to know if it is possible to even transfer from a tier 4 or tier 3 university to a top 50 university…

My guess is that you meant to say something like: If you didn’t get in as a freshman and you haven’t worked hard to get and maintain a good college GPA, involved yourself in campus activities and shown that in the past one or two years you’ve grown – THEN it’s unlikely that you’ll get in as a transfer.

To the OP: Yale & Harvard are ALWAYS going to be a crapshoot. No matter how strong of a candidate you are. You can work yourself dull to get a stellar GPA in upper level courses your first year and still not get in when applying. That said, its always good to have hope but do consider other school where you might have a more realistic chance.
