Some Questions from an ED Admitted Student

Hey guys, 3 questions:

  1. After looking at the list for the AP scores needed to gain college credit for Swarthmore, I was wondering if most students actually do receive college credit, or if they opt out and take intro courses. Overall, do AP courses prepare students enough for the rigorous academics at Swarthmore? (I have mostly 4s and 5s, and one 3, though I know it won't get me credit). I'm not dead set on my major, but am leaning towards econ and/or public policy.
  2. What is the reputation of Swarthmore's music department, specifically the wind ensemble? I've heard recordings of Swarthmore's wind ensemble but was just curious to see how the various music departments stack up against other LACs.
  3. In terms of roommate selection, am I particularly disadvantaged in not having a facebook account and being a part of the class of 2019 group? I have a twitter, but am wondering if I really need to create a facebook account.

Thanks guys, and I’m looking forward to being a Swattie!

  1. Yes I got credit. Most still take the intro classes anyway. No, AP classes are nothing compared to Swarthmore.
  2. One of my friends had two master classes, and almost everyone I meet here has some musical talent (athletes, STEM kids). Don't know about other LACs.
  3. You get randomly assigned a roommate :)

swatswatswat-congrats on your acceptance. I have two Swat graduates and wanted to chime in and agree with nerdybamboo. My guys had the credits for AP’s noted on their Swat transcripts but AP classes can’t even be mentioned in the same breath as the rigor of Swat classes.
