Some Questions!

I’m really interested in business and Babson was recommended to me. I’ve read a ton of student reviews and have looked over the school’s data. I have a few questions though!

Most students talk about how rigorous the course work is. Now, I expect to be studying a lot in college, but many make it seem as though it’s almost unbearable and barely anyone can get A’s because of the curve. Is this true for the most part?

Babson is obviously not a big name school, but most people online say that it is well regarded in the business world. However, how well regarded is it to say the NYC area and investment banking/marketing/advertising? I know prestige and rank isn’t everything, but for that market it is and I don’t know if Babson is a fit for that market instead of Boston.

Do many students receive good internships in major cities? I’m talking more outside of Boston.

Thanks!

Regarding your first question, it is not impossible to get A’s here. I feel that a lot of students are overwhelmed during their first year because they are running their FME business, taking three or four other classes, AND staying active in a variety of the clubs or organizations we offer. This can often cause students to not do as well as they would like since they are involved in so much. Therefore, it is important to manage your time wisely while on campus. Additionally, I have never had a professor round down, ONLY up.

Babson has a lot of alums in the NYC area. This means that there are a lot of opportunities for students to network with these individuals. Also, when I log into career connections, the majority of internships or job offers seem to come from NYC and Boston. I am a rising junior and one of my good friends is working for Merrill Lynch this summer as an IB summer analyst. Investment banking is a difficult industry to crack, but there are many Babson alum who work in this industry. Harris Williams, a middle market investment bank, is a big recruiter on Babson’s campus as well.

As I mentioned earlier, I have friends interning in cities ranging from NYC, Singapore, London, Los Angeles and Dallas to name a few. We have connections worldwide and our Center for Career Development does an awesome job of helping students to not only work in their sought after career field, but also their desired geographic area.
