I'll be attending Pomona next fall, and I've got several questions for current students/parents:

1) What do students do with their stuff over the summer? Are there good storage options, or do you have to take everything home with you/sell it off?

2) Where do students doing summer research live? Are rooms available through one of the colleges, or are students on their own to find room and board?

3) After paying tuition/room and board, how much do living expenses add up to each year? How much do students usually have to pay for textbooks?

Any input would be appreciated :)

Congratulations! Here’s what I’ve gleaned from my D over the past (almost) four years:

1) You receive five stickers to attach to items you want to store over the summer. Kids generally pool a lot of things together, e.g., in a big garbage bag or box, to make the most of those tags. Also, sometimes you can get extra tags from other students who aren’t using theirs.

2) If you’re doing summer research at Pomona, you’re allowed to live on campus in exchange for a reasonable fee. I think you can also get meals on campus as well.

3) It all depends on how frugal (or not) you are. You can buy used textbooks at the bookstore or from other students to save some money.

Also some more questions…

I just paid deposit ($500). We don’t get that money back until we graduate? Is it taken out of our tuition fees?

Secondly, when are the bills due for each semester (assuming we pay twice a year instead of the Pomona College payment plan).

Can anyone recommend or delineate about one of the seven freshman trips?

Thank You

Sea Kayaking’s one of the best ones each year. I highly recommend it.

You’ll get your tuition bills in August (I believe) and December.

As for OA - D did the Catalina Island trip that included biking, swimming, camping, kayaking, and beach volleyball - a little bit of everything. You can’t go wrong with any of them - it all depends on personal taste.
