Some quick questions concerning orientation...

Hello, all.

Got accepted to College Park a while back - I just have a couple of questions concerning orientation. If any of these come across as naive or idiotic, feel free to make fun of me after answering them to the best of your ability.

I made it into the Honors College - does this mean that I must take the Honors Orientation?

I understand that my parents are allowed to sign onto their own, separate $60 Orientation program. Must they do so in order to stay informed, or are they allowed to come with me on my $160 orientation?

I know that Orientation at UMD usually lasts two days, and that students are typically expected to report there at 7:30 in the morning. At what time does it usually end? Will I be leaving before midnight of the second day?

I made it into the Honors College - does this mean that I must take the Honors Orientation?

No, if you absolutely can’t go to an honors orientation, you can go to a “regular” one. They will have a small breakout session at regular orientations, but it is not nearly as thorough or in-depth about the honors college itself. You can compare the schedules to see what I mean

The other advantage of going to an honors orientation is that you will meet more students in the honors program and might actually find someone you want to room with…

“I understand that my parents are allowed to sign onto their own, separate $60 Orientation program. Must they do so in order to stay informed, or are they allowed to come with me on my $160 orientation?”

I don’t think its mandatory, but I can tell you that as a parent it is helpful because they go over information that is more relevant from a parent perspective. And no, they are not allowed to come to the student orientation - it’s students only.

“I know that Orientation at UMD usually lasts two days, and that students are typically expected to report there at 7:30 in the morning. At what time does it usually end? Will I be leaving before midnight of the second day?”

It ends in the afternoon, after you finish signing up for classes and get your student ID with photo.
