Some ramblings for the Class of 2010

Well, I had my best friend at the time fry me for being 30 minutes late for watch once. Almost got me booted.

The fact I was getting something to eat in preparation for a 24-hour watch alone, and the fact that he abandoned his post and was told that if I went down, he was going down harder, ended that stupidity.

So yes, there are plenty of rats at USNA. It's a cross-section of America, and as much as we'd like to hope so, neither place is perfect.

"Frying" is the act of putting someone on report for some infraction. Unless they changed thigs, such a report is documented on a Form-2, or a "Duece".

"Demerits" are assigned to those who have been fried, depending upon the severity of the offense. I was friednonce for not completing a pro-board on time. I got five demerits. Thos who get frid for BIG things (like fraternization), get much more. If a person gets 100 or more demerits for a single offense, yet don't get kicked out, they earn the right to the "Black N".

"Restriction" is how demerits are worked off. In my day, Plebes used to march tours, while upperclassmen were restricted to the Hall, in uniform, and subject to random formations and inspections. One company once got fried so bad that they took their guideon to the restriction formations. :D

I only earned 5 demerits my whole time there. I was a boring one.

So do mids get fried for things like...
- uniform not being 100% perfect
- room not being 100% clean
- not knowing rates

Eh.... Not exactly.

Things like that are usually reserved for Plebes UNLESS the uperclassman's room is a complete wreck (still doubtful) or if his uniform is really bad (which they never are).

Upperclassmen usually get fried for skipping class, or being UA after liberty, or drinking underage, etc.

Zaphod I was reading a previous post and I had a question......at NAPS who are the "upperclassmen" if you are only there for a year??? Who does the indoc and training???

now everybody marches tours if they're on restriction.

For JL the indoc(at NAPS) is done by 2/c's from the Naval and Coast Guard Academies. I think he was referring to the academy when he was talking about "upperclassmen."

Correct. "Upperclassmen" applies only to USNA.

When I was there, NAPS Indoc was run by 1/C MIDN for two weeks. After that, and for the remainder of the year, Stripers were selected from among the M/C's, who then led their classmates. The Stripers were selected by the Mids and the Administration.

Wheelah: So everyone marches tours now, eh? Yikes.

Do they still allow Mids to work off demerits and tours by shoveling snow?

my roommate told me her indoc at naps was done by firsties.

"Stripers were selected from among the M/C's, who then led their classmates. The Stripers were selected by the Mids and the Administration"

OMG! When I read really fast or arent paying complete attention, I often see words that arent there or not quite as they are typed.....anyway when I read this, I saw STRIPPERS! Sat there thinking, what kind of place is my daughter going to?

Had to laugh out loud!

No ma'am.

The Strippers are called in during an entirely different phase of the training. ;)

ooo! let me guess! the wet-down?

My NAPS indoc last year was run by Firsties.
