Some random laptop questions...

I recently visited my friend in college and saw someone taking notes on their computer, but the screen looked like a notebook. Does anyone know what this is?

What are the major differences between MacBook pro and MacBook air? Obviously the air is much more portable, but other than that? Which would you prefer and why?

If you are a college student, do you more often take notes on your laptop or with a pen/pencil and paper notebook? Why?

Thanks!!

1- that could be alot of things. Microsoft word has a feature that lets you take notes on a virtual notebook. It may be microsoft OneNote. Not exactly sure. It works ok, nothing to write home about though.

2- The macbook pro will come with greater specs on the machine meaning its suited for much more difficult tasks. The Air has recently been updated and has caught up with the pack by supplying quite a bit more power and nocking off that novelty feel that had plagued them before hand. For what I do, I’d take the MBP. If the air had better battery life (+8 hours), I’d really consider it, but they still haven’t gotten around to it.

3-Personally i use a laptop unless i’m in a math-type class where a pen and paper really shine. I have lost a lot of my endurance in my hands since high school lol, so I really hate handwriting stuff anymore. Typing doesn’t cause my hands to ache after the first page of an essay or a long page of notes, so i choose it more often than not.

check out penzu.com

basically pro has better hardware than the air

both windows and macs have programs to make the screen look like a notepad…

i use a pro. macbook air does not have a cd drive and while it has a solid state hard drive, you can run more programs with the pro and will have more space on it (for music, movies, files, etc).

i LOVE using my laptop in class. except for the stats classes, i use my pro for every class. i take my notes faster and more proficiently. Additionally, it is easier to carry than a bunch of notebooks. i also get my textbooks on my computer so i have even less to worry about carrying or forgetting.

No idea what they were using. Likely a program of some sort.

The difference between the Macbook pro and air are that the pro has more processor choices and the air has a solid state drive only. What you’ll notice more than anything is that the air is light yet durable, but the keyboard is just a rubber chiclet keyboard. It doesn’t have a feel or action to it, so it may not be for writing long papers.

I’m a parent, and I take notes at work both ways. I find the action of taking notes is most important. I like using my laptop but find the distractions (internet, mail, etc), well, distracting. If you have difficult staying focused, leave the laptop off and go paper.
