Grinnell doesn't

Hm..Sorry but I've never heard of Grinnell :(

somebody told me today that university of chicago doesn't, but I'm not sure. And I think there are a lot of places that don't require SAT II's if you submit the ACT.

The University of Michigan does not require SAT IIs. But you'll have to change your handle to SHS_Wolverine if you decide to go that route.

I thought SAT IIs were required with or without the ACT...That's quite a relief.

haha that's right, Don't want angry UMich fans chasing after me.

Stanford doesn't require SAT 2s

Um, in my research it seems that many "reach" schools "recommend" them, the exceptions mostly being the Ivies. I really do not understand what "recommend" means in this context, and if anybody knows what kind of impact not submitting SAT II's to a school that recommends them has one's chances(?), any insight would be greatly appreciated.... I am kind of in the same boat as the poster, my ACT score puts me in the range of the reach schools but I rather not send SAT II scores....

Oh..that's a good question.

How heavily do they consider applicants who don't send in SAT II scores..even if they are recommended?

Most public universities won't require you to submit SAT II's, although some of the privates require that you submit the ACT and the SAT I if you have no SAT II's. I know for sure that Brown is one of those. At the public universities, you can probably get away with just the ACT, especially if you're instate. This information can be found on the admissions pages of the schools' websites.

I'm going to be keeping an eye on this thread as well. I too am trying to find some nice reaches that don't require SAT IIs.

Notre Dame doesn't require them.

Carleton doesn't require them.

Pomona doesn't

so if a school requires that you send SAT reasoning and 2 sat IIs or the ACT, will it matter if your SAT percentiles are worse than your ACT percentiles? for instance, will a 2010 SAT ruin your chances even if you have a 33 ACT?

wait...if a school has either SAT I and SAT II's OR ACT, can't you just send the ACT and they don't see the SAT..right? When a school has this option is just sending the ACT looked down upon or do they prefer the SAT with sat II's

anna, no I think they will only consider your ACT score.
Of course they see your SAT score but unless its like 1000/2400 as opposed to ACT 35 a lower SAT score shouldn't hurt you.

Spartan, why don't you just take the SAT IIs in October. Then, if you choose a school that does require them, you will be ready. That's what my DS did. He's not sure if he will apply to an ivy or not, but if he does, he's prepared.

I could take the SAT IIs, but I'm not very confident in my ability to do well on them.

My SAT I superscore is a 1850, but my ACT is a 33. I think it's the way the SATs are scored that's scaring me.

This (post 22) might help. It's a post that includes a link to "Compass" on a thread about schools that require SAT subject tests, but includes schools where the ACT might be substituted. There are many caveats. This thread was on theist page of the parents farm this morning. This farm moves too fast!
