Some scary stats on college students and sex

Poetsheart: Obviously I was kidding about post #21.

OK everyone, about my apparently controversial comment, "Any generation that fails to shock its parents is a failure of a generation"

It was meant partly toungue-in-cheek and was probably phrased too flippantly. The subject struck me as one of those age-old “those-kids-today” comments that every generation says about the generation of its kids.

I think it’s hypocritical of boomers, a generation that happily embraced the sexual revolution of the 70s, to now be shocked, shocked that its kids are having sex. Are the figures cited by the OP really that revolutionary? Don’t you remember promiscuity on college campuses 25-30 years ago? (Plus, just how promiscuous are these kids? The OP sited a figure that suggests 70 percent of sexually-active college students today aren’t having multiple partners.)

True, in the late 60s & throughout the 70s we didn’t have AIDS to worry about – but STDs were prevalent, and the abortion rate was actually higher than it is today. Yet somehow boomers managed to grow into the responsible adults now writing CC posts about the academic successes of their children.

Not really - just not multiple partners in a semester. Obviously, some kids have multiple partners in a school year or over college.
