Some Tips for Succeeding at UCLA (2007 edition)

Really helpful tips! thanks!
I hope I get in

Guys, sorry for being unrelated. But I really need help!
I would appreciate any answers.

Does being a Kurdish citizen(lived in Iraq and Iran) help me get into UCLA and other top schools?

Thanks for the helpful advice! I hope I get accepted! :)

This should be stickied to all the colleges, as it is pretty relevant to almost every university student. I don’t even go to UCLA, I go to UCSB.

Just wanted to thank you for your great advice!

Yes! All advice provided here is very, very helpful. It can be of great help for UCLA incoming freshmen! I’ve been worried these days as to how to avoid being just a nother number in that super massive campus with lots of students here and there. And now I know that we should be optimistic and proactive (and I’m sure some others have the same kind of anxiety as me). Anyway, thank ya’ll for these tips!

Don’t stay stuck in your room all day. Go out and socialize!

“1) Buy your books early.”
If my orientation is 2-3 weeks before classes start so my classes aren’t confirmed until then, I won’t be able to order my books as early. Is that okay?

It should be fine, it can be nice to get your books ahead of time so you can look at the material beforehand, and avoid the bookstore which gets crazy during Week 1. Even if you order and your books arrive late if there’s not reading or an assignment due immediately then you should be ok, you may have to catch up when your books do arrive, or you can opt to use the textbook reserves at the library. You can also usually find PDF versions of textbooks online and frankly I’ve never bothered with the textbook for many of my classes but that does depend on the professor and the class.

Great advice, thanks!
