I was waitlisted in March and have some questions regarding it.

[ol]
[li] I recently made Honorable Mention (4th place) in an undergraduate mathematics competition at the school where I take some college courses. Should I send this info. to Boston College? I know that they “don’t encourage supplemental information” for waitlisted individuals, but I thought it might help.
[/li]

[li] If I get in, am I screwed in terms of financial aid? I wasn’t sure whether they give “leftover” aid to the waitlisted students.
[/li]

[li] What else can I do in the meantime? Just wait?[/ol]
[/li]

Thanks a lot.

Someone in another thread was telling me that supplemental stuff doesn't really do anything. I was waitlisted at BC as well, though, and I still sent a short note. That's all I'm going to do, but it probably wouldn't hurt to send that info. One of my teachers at school said BC is big on taking kids off the waitlist though, so either way, I'll cross my fingers for your acceptance!

I talked to a bc student who is good friends with the assistant director of admissions and he said that last year way more people enrolled than they planned. So to compensate they accepted fewer this year, and as a result they expect to take a lot more students off the waitlist than in the past.

I was waitlisted at Middlebury, and they suggested sending in supplementary materials. although BC's policy might be different, I really don't think you can hurt your chances by sending in more info. I too won an award which I sent to Middlebury, so really I think it'd be a good idea (but you may want to check with somebody who knows BC better than I do).

as far as financial aid, most colleges do not re-assign scholarships, however I THINK that any federal loans that you qualify for will be the same at all colleges (ex: the Stafford loan). But don't quote me.
