Hi I am currently a junior and I'm looking to apply to UT in the fall. I live in the north suburbs of Chicago and go to a very competitive private catholic high school. my high school has won the blue ribbon award 4 times and is one of the only schools to have done that. I'm a irish/italian kid with no native american heritage or anything like that. I don't know which college im applying to yet but my info is...

GPA: 3.7 (kinda low because i had some family/personal issues soph year) also my high school doesnt rank anymore
ACT: 32

ECs: football team fresh and soph year and game captain for several games, national honors society, student council board member, big brother/big sister program (help freshman acclimate to high school and you have to be picked by staff to be in it), service club (have to complete 45 hours of service to my high school), i do 20 hours of volunteer work at various places like churches, hospitals, middle schools per semester, DARE speaker, invited to various leadership things, i may be forgetting stuff

Senior Schedule:
World Literature and Composition
Pre-Calc and Trig
AP Gov. sem 1./psychology sem 2.
business management sem 1./business law sem 2.
choir (awful singer but UT website said 1/2 credit in fine arts is strongly recommended)
ap physics

I have all course requirements for UT and then some

lemme know if i can do anything more to boost my chances

Ask an adviser from your school to produce a percentage for you, even though the school does not rank. I say this because even though your school doesn’t rank, UT will make a rank for you. If your not in top 20% your chance falls but being in the top 15% and preferably 10% you will have a better chance.

Also, the school you apply to will totally matter. For Business you would need to be in the top 10% to be in the safe-zone, but if you were just applying to natural science or liberal arts you could probably be out of top 10% (not too much out though!)

Ultimately, get your class rank and tell us.

I second Psych!'s opinion. Business and Engineering are iffy depending on how close you are to 10%, but all the other colleges should let you in I would think. I still think business and engineering would too.

does it make a difference that im from out of state? like do they have to take a certain amount of kids from out of state or from each state in particular

Out of state is not helping your case either I don’t believe. However, being first generation might. I now agree with katytx on engineering and business though. With oos and not top 10% you will have trouble getting in those two.

What are you planning to major in? I got accepted to UT Business. It will be extremely hard to get into Business or Engineering if you dont live in Texas and if you arent in top 10%. Engineering will be hard because you didnt take Calculus , and you need SAT Subject tests for that too. But I mean you did better than me on the ACT i got a 31!

I would say even natural science is a bit sketchy… you don’t have Calculus, which means you will have to take the ALEKS to qualify for calculus. And I think you should take more AP classes in your schedule.
