Somehow funny mistake on my main essay

So I just noticed a huge mistake in the FIRST SENTENCE of main essay

I wrote "I often joke to friends, 'if anyone wants to write blah'. Of my many identities, my sexuality is......"
But it was meant to be "I often joke to friends, 'if anyone wants to write something on the topic of **(something about identities), I'm your source.' Of my many ....."

Here's what happened. I was doing supplement essay and some content of it was kind of in repetition. So I moved some of the staff to my main essay. And that's where the "blah" comes from. I was running out of time on the supplement and I knew what I wanted to talk about so I just put "blah" in my main essay.

BUT EVENTUALLY I FORGOT TO CHANGE THE "BLAH" TO WHAT I WANNA SAY AND SUBMITTED IT!

I was stressed out and didn't know if I should inform the school my mistake and email a correct essay.

My mate said I better not draw their attention to my mistake and just leave it like that.
It's quite funny actually because he actually read it before I submitted and didn't notice it. He said "cuz you said you often joke to people about that. so I thought it was just some kind of Aussie joke that I couldn't get."

Blokes what do you think I should do? Would I harm less if I don't tell them about my mistake?

THX AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR APPLICATION

Bump…

If it were me, I would inform my schools of any mistake(s) I made. However, it is totally up to you.

I would definitely inform them. It can’t hurt. On the other hand, having an incomprehensible/weird first sentence could give them a bad impression of your essay the second they start reading it.

That is a pretty funny mistake though. At least you see the humor in it.

I do the same sort of thing except I write a word that sort of works and use weird, irregular punctuation marks after it so I can easily edit it later. I left some of them in on my supplements :stuck_out_tongue: I hope they just think it’s a program glitch or something.

I also put placeholder words in, but I CAPITALIZE AND BOLD them. Make sure to always do this in the future to keep yourself from being embarrassed or getting fired!

I would resend the essay to every school via mail with a sticky or other note explaining the mistake. Good luck!

I guess that’s the right thing to do.
But I’m just afraid they’ll think I don’t even care enough to proofread it before submit. I do care a lot that’s why I created another version just for them to make sure my main essay doesn’t have repeating content with my supplement

So it won’t hurt my chances if I send them a correct essay? It was kind of a dream school, very competitive.

Having that weird sentence is probably gonna hurt my chances anyway, but I was kind of hoping as they continue reading they’ll forget the ridiculous first sentence

I can picture how the AO is like “Thank you for informing us your mistake. Please don’t worry, I will make sure the correct one goes in your file.” Then tear up my application

I think they’ll still think you didn’t print preview your application
but at least irregular punctuation marks are better than “blah” -___-

Thank you for your advice
Yes I’ve learnt a lesson from this. I’m glad this happened to me before I have a job and get fired because of it
