Hi guys! I'm a rising senior and I'd like to know some general chances for the schools I will probably be applying to. I go to a very competitive high school in California that does not rank students.

I had a pretty rigorous schedule both sophomore and junior year. 5 APs, 6 weighted classes (my school normally does not allow sophomores to take weighted/AP classes).

SAT 1: 2250 (780 M, 680 CR, 790 W) 1 try
SAT IIs: Bio M-800, Math II-770, US History-770

A few ECs off the top of my head(I don't want to list all haha):
1. Library Volunteer (3 yrs)
2. Summer Youth Leadership Program (4 yrs)
3. Science Research Studies program at a UC campus 1 summer
4. California Youth Symphony (2 yrs)
5. Medical Supplies Distributor Volunteer
6. Internship for the city (mostly secretary work)-1 summer
7. Basketball club since 3rd grade

Schools I will apply to (Bio major):
UCB
UCLA
USC
UCSD
UCD
UCI
University of Michigan Ann Arbor
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
UNC Chapel Hill
University of Texas Austin
NYU
Boston College
University of Washington

I also have some questions about the UC GPA and the application. How do some people manage to get 4.6-7 UC GPAs. If the cap is 8 weighted semesters, at my school, the max should be like 4.33 capped. Is it a different format? Also, when you fill out a UC app, do you list your GPA and classes yourself? No official transcript or anything? Anyways, thank you so much guys! I'll try to chance back if you ask!

Well, Im not really sure about UC gpa’s since california highschool grading scales are on a 10 point scale. Where I live, we use a 7 point scale. Our school makes us do the calculations some different way.

As for colleges:

I think you have a good chance for all of them. Ive heard UNC-chapel hill is somewhat hard to get into if you live out of state. As for the UC’s, all of them look good. UCLA and UCB might be a low reach? Im not really sure.
You have a solid unweighted gpa and a great SAT. Im pretty sure you will get into most of those colleges.

UCB-Low Reach
UCLA-Match
USC-Match
UCSD-Match
UCD-Safety
UCI-Safety
University of Michigan Ann Arbor-Match
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign-Safety
UNC Chapel Hill-Low Reach
University of Texas Austin (Not Sure)
NYU-Match
Boston College-Safety
University of Washington-Match

yeah UNC Chapel Hill is like Stanford in that a certain % of the incoming class has to come from the state. so that one would be a higher reach even though you’re academically qualified.
Other than that I’d say you’re looking pretty good. UC Berkeley might be mid reach and BC as well, but since you didn’t list all of your ECs I’d put them as low reach since you have more.
also, what is your intended major? which APs did you take? and what did you get on them?
if they demonstrate interest in your major then that’s good, if not, they’re still good just not as good necessarily.

The only one that I can chance you for (because that’s the only one that I’m familiar with the school) is UT Austin (because I’m from Texas). UT Austin has a rule that it MUST admit all students in Texas that are top 8% in their class rankings. This means that a lot of kids apply to UT Austin (Texas is a very large state with a very large population…) and UT Austin MUST admit these students that are in the top 8%. This means that your chances as someone out of the state are pretty slim, although not impossible. With this in mind, just make sure your essay is fantastic. A lot of people I know who apply to UT Austin pretty much do so because they’re guaranteed a spot at that school and so they don’t pay too much attention to the essay that they write for it. This can be to your advantage since many (not all, however) of the essays are of “meh” quality.

here’s my take on UW since i will be applying there next year
University of Washington, your GPA is right around the OOS average (yes, i was shocked that the average OOS GPA was around 3.7-3.8, I thought it was gonna be 3.9 or something like that), and your SAT is way above the 75th percentile. stats-wise, you’re golden. ecs, actually those are good for UW from what i’ve seen from other posters. just make sure you write good essays. hope to see you there!
