I got deferred early action, not surprised but still disappointed. I am taking the bio and English subject tests this month and I entered some more contests so hopefully I have some good things to add to my application.
Top 15% in very large public high school (550 kids)
Taken 5 AP Classes, 4s and 5s on all exams
3.6 uw gpa 3.96 weighted gpa
best SAT scores: critical reading 670 math 590 reading 640 (1900 combined)
ACT: 29 composite, 35 english 21 math 34 reading 27 science
SAT II: German: 660
Alumni interview went well
Extra curriculars: ballet for my whole life, peer tutor in latin, German club, Link Crew Leader (we help the freshmen adjust to high school) LEO Club member, volunteer at local food pantry, very involved in church youth group, band member for three years</p>

1 additional rec from my teacher from a two week intensive writing program that I attended this summer in NYC (teacher is a lecturer at NYU)</p>

<p>Hooks: Talented writer, have won multiple essay contests, have had my work published in a magazine and online, attended intensive writing program in NYC that was competitive to get into.
I am applying as a linguistics major. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. What can I do to make my app stand out? My senior year grades are all good, and I would do anything to get into Georgetown.</p>

<p>You are more than a low reach. It is easily a reach. Your test scores are pretty low for Georgetown and your GPA is pretty low as well. Your chances are likely pretty low, unfortunately. However if you played up your strengths in your writing abilities and how it shapes you, you might have slightly higher chances. It’s going to be very very tough. I hope you have safeties. Georgetown is rapidly becoming more and more competitive (pretty close to that top 10 grouping) and it seems to be way more selective this year than previous years. Good luck to you!</p>
