PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me quickly just once. I'm so desperate for an acceptance!

Did you attempt to track the package? UPS wouldn't have come into play if something wasn't sent to you. Track the package and let us know what the tracking message said (something like "delivered to City, State," "Out for delivery" so we can help you. The UPS tracking site is very user friendly. Make sure you report back because I'm crossing my fingers for you big time!!!

Thanks zoosermom. I don't know the first thing about how this express mail business works. I'll just copy what I see on the tracking page:

Do you think the school would have paid to send a rejection by express mail? Cause that message clearly says that they sent you an "express" package by UPS. You can follow the progress of the package all day long -- like the NORAD Santa tracker.

Here's my advice to you: do NOT tackle the UPS driver. They don't like that too much. Waiting outside for him, standing in the street waving are all fine. Kisses and hugs are even good and I'm sure applause and cookies are appreciated. But don't tackle him, ok?

Don't forget to let us know the outcome. I wish you a wonderful, memorable and joyous day today!

miaoling--good luck. looks like amherst is about to send you mail via ups express.
now delete the tracking number you posted toward the bottom of your last post, for privacy

Thanks everyone; it means a lot:) I'm still a bit crazy just now. Btw, I asked people on another forum and they all said it's good news. Better not get my hopes up too high though, just in case. Sure, I'll certainly keep you posted;)

And it's a package, not an envelope, sounds like. A package sounds to me like the proverbial "fat envelope," not the "thin envelope." Seems like good news!

i don't know to me a package sounds mighty promising, if that was me, I would be doing tiny tiny little jumps that would escalate into huge major leaps in the air accompanied by insane dying cow like yells of joy if i see in the flesh that it is indeed a package, I have a feeling, only a hunch that they would not send you a package express mail if its a rejection, will cross my fingers for ya, and do a tiny little jump too!

It's a "she", 1AmongMany:)
Thanks everyone for crossing your fingers for me. I'm mighty glad about your words, as I'm loving Amherst right now. The email will come on Sunday, and I'll tell you what it says;)

@syneria: they only send UPSs to intels. If you live in the USA, you'll just get the snail mail. All the best though; I'd love to meet CC'ers there:)
The package hasn't arrived (it usually takes 5 days) but my offer of admission has:D

Dear XXXXXX:

I am sending this email in advance of your official written notification of the Amherst College Admission Committees decision on your application for admission to the Class of 2010.

Understanding that your distance from Amherst may cause some delay in your receipt of our acceptance packet, I am writing to inform you that the Admission Committee was most impressed with your academic accomplishments and achievements in your community and is delighted to offer you admission to the College. Congratulations on this honor!

We will be offering several opportunities for newly admitted students to chat online with current Amherst College students. The first Chat will occur on Tuesday, April 4, from 7-10 p.m. and the second, designed especially for international students, will be on April 5 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. A number of current international students plan to participate in Wednesdays Chat. To join either Chat, just go to our admission website: www.amherst.edu/admission and click on the Chat icon.

Our formal offer of admission will arrive shortly. If you have applied for financial aid, you will be hearing directly from our Office of Financial Aid soon. Details about your admission and the May 1 response date will be included in the letter we mailed on March 30, 2006. In the meantime, please take advantage of our Website (www.amherst.edu) to seek answers to any questions you may have about Amherst. There you will have the opportunity to communicate with current students, faculty or members of the Admission staff. We are all eager to have you choose Amherst!
