Someone please help

I'm getting money from the fafsa, but what I'm wondering is, when you get your check is that just for books? Or do you get a check every term to spend on books and then you can do whatever you need to with the leftover money. I have a 2 year old and my parents don't really help out financially. I don't want to take out a loan because I'm trying to avoid those until I transfer to a state school.

It depends on the schools. Some schools refund the excess financial aid in the first month, some refund in second month.

Also, Federal credit to your account faster than the state. You might getting two refunds - one for Federal and one for state.

It sounds like you’ll get full Pell…which is 5550 per year…or about 2750 per semester.

How much is your tuition and fees? That will first get subtracted. Then any remaining balance will be given to you so that you can use the rest as you need to…for books, food, etc.

If your tuition and fees are about 1000 a semester, then you’ll get about 1700 a semester.

BTW…if you’re being offered ANY subsidized loans, then you should take THOSE, set the money aside for when you transfer. The reason is that when you transfer, you may not get enough aid, so that money that you set aside will help cover any gaps.

Are you living at home?
