After Jan 1, it seems the fora have been innundated with dozens upon dozens of posts that ask the same panicked questions

"OMG! I'm 4 minutes late. I'm doomed, right? Where's my community college app?"

or "Why isn't my counselor up all day on Dec 31 sending in my transcripts and school reports? He/She doesn't deserve a winter break!!!!"

I'm being a little facetious here but you get the point. LOL

Perhaps students should think back and realize tha*t they are the object of pursuit by the many colleges applied.* Consider the millions of dollars spent, the countless air miles flown, the thousands of college info sessions, the fifty billion pounds of brochures sent through the post office.

With these herculean efforts by the colleges to court a great applicant pool, should students really FREAK OUT to this degree? Is the thought that the colleges are Dickensian monoliths with absolute strict laws that can never be blurred ("Aha! This kid's postage stamp is too many degrees askew! Auto reject!")

Here's the deal on incomplete files. Even now, all the files are being sorted and assembled. Invariably, many files are initially incomplete. Those that are complete get to be examined first. After a while, schools or students will be contacted if vital information is still missing (LORs, transcripts, school reports, scores, etc.). If these follow up efforts are ignored -- only then will you be in jeopardy.

If technical glitches (perhaps saying that a payment wasn't processed) continue, then that might be worth a call by week's end. However, don't panic if your auto emails of "we got everything" haven't yet occurred. Some colleges were expecting a +15% uptick in apps this year. The sorting, assembling and scanning takes quite a while.

Everyone, please try to relax and enjoy the rest of your Senior year. Good luck folks.
